This is part one in a series of possible candidates for the Head Football Coaching Position at Texas A&M-Commerce.
Candidate one-Colby Carthel
Current position: Defensive Coordinator at West Texas A&M University
Alma Mater: Angelo State, BA in Science, 2000
Previous Schools: Abilene Christian, (Coach) Angelo State (Player)
Overall thoughts: Right now, rumor has it that Carthel is the front runner. If his last name sounds familiar, it is because his father is Don Carthel, the head coach at West Texas A&M. Carthel has quite a few advantages to him and a huge upside. First, he played football in the LSC, and has Coached at two different schools, and knows the struggles of our Offense and Defense. He has also made it known he would love to come to Commerce. Being with Succesful programs is also a huge upside. He has been coaching against us for the past 6 years, and knows what we need improvement on, especially with the defensive talent we have on that side of the ball. Our largest need for improvement comes on offense, and since Carthel knows what it takes to stop us, I would believe he knows what would make us go as well.
His Father is rumored to be retiring after the 2013 year, and one would imagine he would perhaps help his son out in coaching. Carthel is a good coach and a very effective recruiter. With all due respect to the good folks in Canyon, anyone who can get a group of studs to go out to Canyon is a very good recruiter. I would be pleased with this selection, but we have others, and as impressive as Carthel is, I have a Candidate in mind, but you will have to wait till next week to find out who that is.
