Well, it’s all but official. Today at 11 A.M. Ryan Ivey will introduce to the TAMUC community former West Texas A&M Associate Coach Colby Carthel as the new head football coach. You can stream the press conference via Lionathletics.com.
Initial thougts-I made no attempt to hide my favor toward Hal Mumme for this job, because of what he had accomplished at smaller schools. However, in the long run of things, I believe that Carthel was the more prudent choice. Notice I did not say safe. Carthel is a solid coach who has a Father who turned around a struggling WTAMU program and took them to national prominence. I have a feeling the apple didn’t fall far from the tree and I sure hope it didn’t. Carthel is young, he is very familiar with our program, and he wants to be here. I have little doubt that this was the best hire for the program as a whole. I had noted that AD Ivey would be making the toughest and biggest hire and it would also be his first. I believe that Ivey thought this thing out and weighed the ups and downs of all 4 guys and he made the best choice. There is little doubt this is what this program needs. I am just waiting for the spring game to start.
Who Carthel picks as QB will tell us a lot about his offensive philisophy. I know this, WTAMU can score, and score a lot. We need that offensive firepower. We will have 7-9 QB’s competing for time and the starting job. I have a feeling running the ball effectively will be more and more part of the game plan. Also, on defense, I expect to see that talent that we do have start producing.
That is really all I have to say about the hire right now. Everyone who can please tune into the press conference at 11 AM and tell me what you think.
Go Lions…….

Was impressed with Carthel today. Can tell he is completely passionate about what he does and why he is regarded as one of the top recruiters. Think good things are heading this way for Commerce, not just for football, but volleyball as well. Hopefully the volleyball coach can get her onto the staff.
As was I. I am waiting to see what will come of this hire. I agree, Sarah Carthel is an outstanding Volleyball mind, Case would be wise to hire here to the staff.
Go Lions……
