The Daily Roar, News and Bigger News

Lion Hoops-

First off, good job to the Lions for their win in San Angelo against Angelo State last Saturday and keeping them in tournament contention. They face two more tough games this week, tonight they head down to the Alamo City to face Incarnate Word, and then will host A&M-Kingsville Saturday at the Fieldhouse. It looks as if winning 2-3 more games and the Men are in.

The Ladies suffered a near fatal setback by losing to ASU, and now there is very little hope of them making tournament noise. Even though they have had a much better season than last year, HC Nicole Anderson is donig a good job in keeping the Ladies competetive. Getting a win against either UIW or TAMUK would go a long way into getting them back into consideration for the tournament. Getting Lady Lion basketball back to elite status won’t be done overnight. It will be a tough out.

Lion Golf-

Yes, it has arrived. Golf time. Congrats to the Lady Lions for their 7th place (out of 14 teams) finish at the World Golf Invitational in San Augistine, Florida. Sara Diaz led the way by shooting 10 over to pace the Ladies against some stiff competition. This group was solid last year and they have basically the same group intact, so it will be interesting to see what awaits them. The next round for the Ladies will be a month from now when they will participate in the Texoma Classic at Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, where over 20 teams are already scheduled to tee off. Solid showing has me excited for the ladies.

Overall-

Athletic Director Ryan Ivey announced late last week that there will be a series of town hall meetings for the state of the Athletic Department. This shows that Ivey is serious about turning the entire program around. If you plan on attending, here is a set of questions that the athletic department will want everyone to fill out and turn in, and also the schedule and the times and dates, as where they are at-

Questions-http://lionathletics.com/Town_Hall_Questions.pdf

Schedule-

Date Area Location Time
Mon., Feb. 18 Commerce Community Sand Hills Country Club 6:30 p.m.
Tues., Feb. 19 A&M-Commerce Students The Club (Rayburn Student Center) 6:00 p.m.
Thurs., Feb. 21 Greenville Community Greenville High School 6:30 pm.
Mon., Feb. 25 Sulphur Springs Community Sulphur Springs ISD Board Room 6:30 p.m.
Tues., Feb. 26 A&M-Commerce Faculty/Staff The Club (Rayburn Student Center) 2:00 p.m.
      6:00 p.m.

Mon., Mar. 4 Tyler Community Location TBA 6:30 p.m.
Mon., Mar. 18 Paris Community Paris Junior College 6:30 p.m.

I will be attending the DFW meeting in Rockwall. And also, on the questionnaire, be brutal. Be honest, that is what I was. I saw short comings and addressed them. It will be anonymous so go all out, it is for the good of the school.

Finally, the reason I was out yesterday was due to SBnation.com getting wind of this site and asking if I would be willing to sign a contract to blog everyday, and focus on it regarding A&M Commerce athletics. How it would work is that I would have moderation control of the site, and manage it but the site would no longer be mine, it would belong to SBnation.com. I really have to think about this because getting paid means getting up earlier and doing weekends. The contract may be too good to pass up, but I am going to think about it, because I have some MBA school left to pay off and am also wanting to get a new car, so it may go this way, but I am afraid I will treat this like a job and just do what I have to do during the day and lose my passion. That is my main concern. What do you all think? I would love to hear opinions.

That is the news..

Go Lions…….

“Very little hope” for the women? They sit in seventh right now and three of their final six are against teams below them in the standings, with two of them being at home. They have technically a two game lead over eighth-place TWU after sweeping them. Realistically, the women have a better chance at the postseason than the men do.

    • I guess I should have clarified that comment. I meant to make some noise in the tournament. They would get a low seed which means a first round match-up against a Tarleton Or someone like them and it would be a very quick ending to the trip to Allen. Hope I am wrong.

      Go Lions……
